This is the place where you can personalize your profile!
But, how?
By moving, adding and personalizing widgets.
You can drag and drop to rearrange.
You can edit widgets to customize them.
The left side has widgets you can add!
Some widgets you can only access when you get a premium membership.
Some widgets have options that are only available when you get a premium membership.
We've split the page into zones!
Certain widgets can only be added to certain zones.
"Why," you ask? Because we want profile pages to have freedom of customization, but also to have some consistency. This way, when anyone visits a deviant, they know they can always find the art in the top left, and personal info in the top right.
Don't forget, restraints can bring out the creativity in you!
Now go forth and astound us all with your devious profiles!
Thanks again Alex! I guess I have an old school love for 2000AD! Have you at least shown that Dredd page to Tharg? I'm absolutely positive he'd be bowled over by it. I don't know if you'd produce strip work in the same style but it'd be unlike anything anyone else is doing for Dredd right now. Will the WW3 stuff be printed? If so, give us a heads up, it looks right up my alley.
My future plans? Well, I always dreamed of drawing for 2000AD but let ut go for a few years. I've only really been giving it a go for about a year, and found the small press titles (which have been very helpful and accommodating!). I went to my first convention (BICS) in October, and Tharg did indeed have a stand there, and was good enough to view my portfolio. To be fair, I wasn't even going to bother, and I know I'm not ready, but a fellow aspiring artist talked me into it and it was actually really cool. Tharg gave me a few minutes and lots of advice. My plan right now is to keep up with small press contributions and just see how my art develops. I've got stuff in the works for Dogbreath, Zarjaz, Paragon, Starscape and Something Wicked, plus I'm part of a collaborative webcomic which has launched recently called 'Fractal Friction'.
If you get a minute, here's my blog which has some strip work:
Hello You certainly seem to be keeping busy with all the titles you are working on. I have issue 21 of Dogbreath at home and your stuff is the dominant presence in there. I don't think you will be far away from a gig at 2000 if you keep plugging away. It took me a few convention visits before David Bishop gave me a chance. Your colour palette is one of the stand out things in your work. I find it an unusual choice but it works really well. It's all stuff like that that define what you do.
I haven't shown or been in touch with Tharg with the Dredd pic. I did it about a year ago just to see how i would approach a page ten years on from my last paid work. A guy called the Emperor has recently been in touch about a thread on the 200ad boards. The thread referred to art droids from the past and i'd got a mention with a link to the image on Deviant. It was very heartening to hear some folk who had disliked my work in the past but were enthusing about this page.
I haven't really decided what to do with WW3 with regard to print or web. I'm planning to kick start it with a bang and do something similar to the beginning of the Bond films. An six page all action sequence before the titles start type of thing.
I'll keep an eye on your blog from now on and look forward to see what you get up to in the coming months. Cheers and best wishes Alex
Hi Alex, really impressed with what you're doing these days. The WW3 stuff and your Dredd page in particular. Any chance you'll be gracing the pages of the Galaxy's greatest again?
Howdy Matt. Cheers for the kind comments. I'm working on a lot of digitally painted art for a client which will keep me busy for a while this year. When that winds up i'll maybe try and get a five or six page episode of WW3 done and get back into the swing of actually doing panel layouts and story telling.
Maybe then i'll give 2000ad a serious go again. I'll have a lot of work behind me to back up what i can do and the WW3 strip will hopefully be the real selling point with it actually being comic work. Dunno how you go about breaking back into the scene these days. The old UKCAC in London was my springboard back in the early 90's. Don't know what the convention scene is like now or whether or not 2000ad editors attend it.
Love your Dredd Christmas pic and the colours are indeed unusual but work brilliantly. It's got a very old school Dredd/2000ad feel which appeals to me a great deal.
